...and tonight's major panic is....food poisoning again!

Ok, steam cooked green beans for tea. Tested one, tasted cooked. Served up, dd2 said didn't like taste, so she left them and by the time I sat down, DD1 had wolfed hers down (about 5/6 beans), saying they tasted 'just picked'?! I tried one that tasted bitter and undercooked.

Checked packet, said display until 23 Jan (2 days ago) so assume they wudn't be off?

Can undercooked green beans give you food poisoning? I know u can eat veg raw but does the heating process produce bacteria and only killed when cooked long enough?

I posted a few days ago about panic re DD2 getting FP from choc, so far she's ok (3 days later). I'm now really worried DD1 going to get it. These things consume me, I'm a terrible worrier, am I being irrational again? Thanks.

very unlikely to get food poisoning from green beans. I often serve them to the dc's undercooked (not a good cook!) and no ill-effects yet.

Stop panicking. They looked fine and tasted fine.

Have you thought about seeing someone re your anxiety?

dawneg · 25/01/2012 20:15

They didn't taste ok tho, they tasted bitter and crunchy. The one I tried first was a random on that cooked OK (nr the bottom of the pan), most of them weren't.

I have thought about seeing someone, but now sure who? Everytime I get my knickers in a twist about something (and there's something every week, sometimes more often) it consumes me but has always proven to be OK. Each time I think, well, 'xyz' turned out ok but I bet this doesn't, as I've run out of luck/i'm due a problen, kind of thing.

It sounds like you have OCD/ Health Anxiety. Go and see your GP, he should be able to help (refer for CBT, antidepressants etc)

winnybella · 25/01/2012 20:20

Oh, and your DD will be fine.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 25/01/2012 20:24

Its not raw meat or shellfish or anything, sriously she will be fine BUT reassurance won't help you because imo the problem isn't non potential food poisoning, its health anxiety. I suffer from this, you mst get treatment.

FlossieFromCrapstonVillas · 25/01/2012 20:30

Please stop worrying about this one, it's going to be fine.

There is help for health anxiety/anxiety, CBT is the way to go, see your Dr.

Stop worrying about the green beans though.

I know ur right re needing to sort this, is the GP the right route as I really don't want any medication. I'm not depressed (I have experience of this and know the markers). I just worry about my kids so much. I know this is a normal mum thing, but it just spoils life for me. Thx for ur replies, the support is invaluable.
