Red scaly skin in nappy area - allergic dermatitis?

2 y.o. DS has developed red scaly skin at the front of his nappy area.

He's had a raised red patch on his buttocks for several months now which has gone scaly and dry at points. We have Timodene cream from the GP for it (anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, hydrocortisone, water repellent).

That patch seems to have subsided, but the whole front of his nappy area is red, scaly, slightly dry but slightly shiny-looking, and is starting to bother him. It's not right in the creases of his skin.

I've put a photo on my profile, but this is from a week or two ago and it's much worse now.

Previously he's had Daktacort for a different type of nappy rash and after using it, he had the same scaliness appear at the front of his nappy area (but not the back). It disappeared when we stopped using the Daktocort.

He wears disposables in the day when out, is nappy-free and uses a potty at while at home, and wears cloth at night. I wash with soap nuts so I don't think it's a detergent issue.

From Google I suspect it's some kind of allergic dermatitis - presumably I should stop using the cream?

We have an appointment to see the GP, but not till Friday.

Any thoughts?

It doesn't seem to be a problem on his buttocks, though. Confused
