Is this chicken pox or hand, foot and mouth?

26mo DS has had diarrhoea for the last couple of days and also rash round mouth (which I thought was due to him being a bit dribbly at the moment poss because of back molars coming in). Apart from that he has been fine, no temp, no grumps, eating normally.

However he now has a few red spots with blisters on his tummy and back. I discovered this morning that one of the children he goes to the childminders with had CP over Xmas so I just assumed the spots etc. are CP. But does the rash round the mouth mean it could be HFM or is this also a symptom of CP?

Yours in confusion, Hackney.

I don't think hfm involves tummy rash. I'd say its cp, and the mouth rash is just the dribble.

Any behind the ears or on scalp? If so IME definitely CP

We have had hand foot and mouth. We had high temps and were nil by mouth bar yogurt for a week. Very very cranky.

HFM can affect legs/buttocks but doesn't tend to be on the torso, so less likely I think.

Hfm has ulcers in tge mouth too but rarer with cp
