Sudden increase in pooey nappies with 4 month old

Hi. I've got a four month old DS who has had 3 days of pooey nappies. He's EBF and normally goes once a day or every 2 days but these 3 days he's had every nappy full of poo. I've not really eaten anything differently as we've had to cancel christmas due to my SIL being in hospital. He's showing signs of teething but I can't see or feel anything.

His bum is now so sore, using bepanthen to sooth it and giving him nappy free time. We've been sleep training for the last 2 weeks and its been working but today he's not been able to get into a deep sleep at all, only managing half an hour at best. He's generally happy when hes awake and the nappy rash doesnt seem to be bothering him that much when hes awake, perfectly happy playing on his mat etc.

Any experience of this, anyone?

Is he feeding more than usual?

There is a horrendous notorious growth spurt at 4 months which could be responsible? Both of mine had disturbed sleep around this time.

Yes he may be actually! Thanks, would this produce more pooey nappies then, i suppose nature takes its course. How long does it last?

I think they say a week or two is usual for a growth spurt. Hope it's over for you soon.

When babies are teething they produce lots of saliva which they mostly swallow, its possibly this causing the extra pooey nappies as you have ruled out most other things. Growth spurts would not necessarily cause extra dirty nappies unless there was a lot of extra feeing going on (bf'ing) which you would be aware of.
