DS not pulling up, feeling really neurotic and worried about hyermobility

MY 12 month old DS crawls (since 10.5 months) rolls and sits up, has great fine motor skills. But he can't pull up. Did it once in the bath and that's it. Goes onto his knees. Likes being pulled up to standing, but then stays in that exact position. Doesn't cruise. But weight bears well. Has pushed a few steps with walker but again, not frequently.

He is small, podgy legs. We had to see a paed consultant about something else and she thinks his legs have good muscle tone and wasn't unduly worried. Said possibly his hips might be a bit flexible, but to come back at 18 months if not walking.

I was diagnosed with hypermobility after pregnancy - never had an issue before, and to be honest, a year on, it's not much of an issue now. I think we all have a bit in my family. My mum has a double joined thumb. My 11 year old nephew has been diagnosed with it because of joint pain in knee - but he's very fit and hopefully his exercise will support him, as mine does.

But I worry about my DS. I feel really neurotic about it. That he should have pulled up by now. Or am I being ridiculous? I read such worrying stories about hypermobile children being in real pain and obviously that's upsetting.

And any exercises I can do to encourage him?

Oh and he sits in the W position quite often

I have a family full of physios
I think the sitting position isn't ideal but he is hitting milestones with crawling so he sounds ok.
If something is wrong then he perhaps wouldn't be crawling yet.
They on average take 3-4 months from crawling to walking so give him a bit longer

I know the w position isn't perfect but all my family have done it including my 2 kids who both walked at 10m.

Your ds is still only really little. I really, genuinely, don't think you have anything to worry about at this stage.

Don't google, everything seems worse when you google.

Fwiw my dd would only bum shuffle and then when she walked she just got up and did it one day, no crawling, nothing. They change so quickly. Stop worrying.

Niether of mine pulled up at 12 months. With dd1 I worried, then two months later I wished she'd pull up a bit less! With dd2 (who walked at 16 mos) I didn't worry.

Its too early to worry, honestly Smile

Hi gobblygook
My DD is exactly the same - 13 months yesterday, and has never pulled up. P me if you would like to keep in touch over the next couple of months as they learn how to do it. I was feeling a bit neurotic today as well - even though I didn't walk until 18 months, and DH was 17 months!

Many people are hypermobile - and don't know - because for many it makes very little difference to their lives.
If you have tried the Beighton scale, you could work out if there is a likelihood of hypermobility.
