Coughing (again, sorry) + fever in 4yo ds

I posted a msg about coughing the other day and got some helpful tips but it's got worse! :(

Took ds to see GP on Weds who said it was viral, cough mixture is generally useless so to steam, blue inhaler, calpol for temp, lots of fluids,. Have been doing that and it's worse.

He has a temp of 38, gets lower with calpol and ibuprofen, he's eating and weeing normally. Is there anything else I can do, please?

There's a humidifier in his room, plus chopped onion (covering all bases), vick, honey to soothe his throat, etc etc. He was sent home from school today at 10am as he was retching as he was coughing... :(

Just keep him comfortable as it will usually go on for a few weeks (sorry) but clear eventually. He may be an early asthma sufferer so any wheezing/whistly noises its back to the GP. if he deteriorates its also back to GP.

Its just that miserable time of the year sadly.

In addition to sneezecakesmum, if temperature becomes high (39/40/41 degrees) and cannot be brought down with calpol and calprofen (if you do not already have the latter at home I would get it just in case) then I would go back to GP as viral infection can be followed by bacterial infection (e.g. pneumonia).

Sleeping with head raised also helps. Also saline spray for nose (sterimar or other) as it helps reduce nasal drip in throat and hence reduce the need to cough. Also reduces risk of ear infection.

Chamomile tea with or without honey may also help a little.

Good luck.
