Allergic reaction, severe hives in 3 year old

Has anyone had any experience of severe hives due to allergic reaction in small child? We were told at first she had a viral rash, now its an allergic reaction with a bacterial infection. She is on steriods and antibiotics and continues with the piriton and painkillers.

I have to ask for allergy tests when I visit GP in 2 days. How do they do these in young children?

I'd suggest reposting this in the allergies section; there's loads of people there with experience to offer. My DD has a severe allergic reaction to cows milk. Her hives look like nettle rash. My GP was not great (Cows Milk Allergy not always widely recognised by doctors) and we ended up going private to get the tests. We had two types; skin test where the suspected allergen is put on the skin and the reaction measured and blood tests. We've also since had (and failed) food challenge tests where the allergen is given to the child to eat/ drink. Good luck. Hope you get the help you need.

Ds had various allergy tests aged 2.

They took blood.

They also did a scratch text where they do numerous tiny scratches on the arm and drop allergens on them to see which react.

They can not have any skin prick tests for a week i think after any antihistamine it might even be two weeks.
What do you think she has reacted to ? Ds who is an ectopic child had an allergic reaction to a virus he was covered in hives had breathing probs and a swallon/puffy face. It went down with pred and piriton.
