My 12m old was admitted to hospital last night with severe croup. He is still there and is about to have his third dose of steroids. He seems a lot better this morning but I understand it is worst at night so expecting a turn for the worse again this eve. If they discharge him they are going to give us a dose to take home with us.

Anyone experienced this before? It is utterly petrifying, poor thing sounded so distressed struggling to breathe :(

A little bit in shock I think. Tough cookie has never been ill before!!!

Ds was in June when he was 19 months old. He has bad asthma anyway but the croup attack was really scary and he ended up being blue lighted to hospital.

He came home the next day and was fine. Apparently because he hadn't had a cold beforehand it was more likely to be just that one night (I think they called it spasmodic croup?)

Poor you. Sad

It happened a lot to both me and my little brother. Very scary for our parents, particularly as we lived 40 miles from the hospital and had very snowy winters.

But the good news is they do bounce back quickly and the treatment really helps. And they grow out of it.
