persistent cough, phlegm and lost voice in 1 year old

my DS has had a cough for about 3 weeks now. I took him to the GP a fortnight ago and was basically dismissed as an over protective mother! since then the cough has worsened and over the past 3 days he has lost his voice and has been coughing up phlegm and being sick from coughing. he doesn't have a temperature but his balance is a bit off too. he hasn't slept in his own bed for 4 nights now but is obviously exhausted as he falls asleep as soon as I pick him up.

does anyone have any tips to help comfort him? should I try to get another doctors appointment this week? I think I probably should but have been put off by the condescending GP! maybe I am being a bit pfb though!
