DS losing his voice, gagging and won't eat

DS is 2.9 and woke up yesterday morning retching and crying and very hot to touch. He spent most of yesterday lollopping on the sofa or sleeping in bed and temp was controlled with calprofen. He can't really talk, when he tries it's a whisper if anything and he will barely drink and hasn't eaten anything. All I could get him to drink was a small cup of tea and a beaker of milk all day. He slept ok woke a few times but was soothed back to sleep.
This morning he woke up gagging and couldn't speak through what seemed like hyper ventilating. His temp is back up but had calpol, won't eat again and won't drink or sleep.
Is there anything I can try to get him to eat, drink and ease his voice back?

poor little thing, sounds like tonsils to me. He should be seen sooner rather than later as dehydration can kick in veeeery quickly if temp is up and no fluilds...

Thank you I'm going to try the doctors again and see if they could possibly get someone out to him. He's just had a bit more milk but says his tummy hurts or something that sounds like that!

sounds like tonsillitis. Get him to the GP especially if he is not drinking much. His tummy might hurt because it is so empty!

Tonsilitis can cause stomach cramps too, something to do with the glands elsewhere also swelling. Most GP's don't do home visits now apart from to see terminal patients, have you got a drop in clinic nearby that you could use if you can't get an appointment? Although they should see him being so poorly at his age.

Ooops forgot - Have you tried him with a lolly ice? This was about the only thing ds would have when he had tonsilitis at a similar age to your ds.

yes tummy pain goes with tonsils because of the glands, if he can sip water it will be better as milk can feel sicky for some children when running a temp

Ouch..whenever i read threads about tonsillitis i feel ill just remembering my last severe bout of it...hope your little DS has been seen by now, i was exactly the same couldn't talk gagging and actually being sick (oh the agony of that with a throat so swollen i couldn't even swallow my saliva...)

Hope he feels better very soon! Lots of cuddles for him, it is absolutely horrid!
