Sugar-free snacks to take to school for an 11 year old - need some ideas please

Two fillings at the dentist today although DD very rarely eats sweets. The dentist thinks it may be the fruit or muffin she has as a snack at school. Ideally he said for her not to snack but she cannot go from 0730 breakfast to 1300 lunch without something. He suggested crisps but then the school would see that as fattening ! so I cannot win. Any suggestions welcome.
One thought was a cheese scone or cheese straws, homemade

A yogurt
Raw carrot
A small sandwich/roll/wrap
Crackers
A piece of cheese
Less acidic fruit, like a banana

Give her a more filling/longer lasting breakfast like porridge - DD has her breakfast (actually usually weetabix or shreddies) at 7 and lasts till lunch at 12.30 without a snack.

lol thanks but she already has a mahoosive breakfast, she's always hungry Smile

even I couldn't last from 0730 until 1300 without some sort of snack

I agree. It is not unreasonable to give her something.

OK.

Cheese straws / scones are probably just as fattening as crisps, but I guess weight isn't an issue?

I don't think a carrot is going to fill her up! A sandwich made from wholemeal bread? A peanut butter sandwich would give plenty of energy.

bumbleymummy · 20/09/2011 19:31

houmous and pitta/breadsticks/crudites, banana, crackers with cheese/peanutbutter (if they're allowed nuts in school), celery and peanutbutter, rice cakes?

Sugar free jelly.

There's a really tasty oat cake recipe in the baby led weaning cookbook that has no added sugar and is yummy.

thanks for your answers, I had forgotten I had asked this lol. No, weight isn't a problem. The dentist suggested crisps which stunned me a little bit as the school would prob say no !

I would go for a small protein not carb snack, eg one of those mini kabanos sausages and/or babybel or those dry cooked bacon strips.

My daughter sometimes takes a bag of mini cheddars as a snack alternative to crisps. They're not fried so not too bad health wise.

Marmite rice cakes, plain popcorn, nuts (if the school allows them) or just take a toothbrush?

rivitas
fruit
cucumber / veg
