hand,foot and mouth disease...tell me about it please

I think my little one has this as all the symptoms are similar to a friends child who had it.

Can you tell me if your child had it, what were the symptoms. Is it possible to not have any marks on feet...main problem in mouth.

Also how doe the doctor diagnose? A doctor friend also said it could be herpes...

Both my Dc have had it at different times. DS1 had about 1 single tiny ulcer in mouth, but lots of red spots on hands and feet and especially, buttocks. He was fine throughout. DD2 had a mouth full of very sore ulcers and about 2 very faint red spots on palms, later followed by a couple on feet (none of which would have been noticeable above the usual blotchy baby if I hadn't been looking closely). She was never properly ill but as miserable as sin, poor little mite and I ended up with liberal amounts of teething gel with lignocaine spread over her mouth and water syringed in. HFM is very common and diagnosed by looking at it. If you're worried, GPs see it all hte time, get one to have a look.

My DD had it quite mildly. She had a few spots in her mouth, like ulcers, probably a total of about 5 small red spots on her hands, and the same again on her feet. She was a bit grouchy for a couple of days but never particularly ill.

My DS had it - largish pimple like red spots on bottom (thought was nappy rash for several days) - then proceeded to get about a handful of blister-like spots over the palms of his hands and soles of his feet. One near his lip/inner mouth. But he was absolutely fine in himself, with no fever, good appetite, usual happy self. I also had it - 2 spots on my hands/feet and no ill feeling either.

My DS had it twice when he was just over a year old. Lots of really horrible spots in his mouth and a couple on his hands and feet. He wasn't really 'ill', just miserable and obviously the sore mouth put him off food and milk. The doctor was reassuring. However, i was in the early stages of pregnancy and i had to have a test to see if i was immune. It can be quite dangerous to pregnant women so it's best to avoid them until the spots disappear.
