any dentists out there? or anyone's child had back molar removed?

ds1 needs one of his back molars taken out. he's 9. no mention yet of a space retainer being put in. is that because it's nhs and you have to pay? is it because they aren't necessary? any experience or knowledge welcome - thanks

merci, maybe try the General Health thread if no one responds here? My dc aren't old enough for me to know about this side of things yet, but I have a feeling they don't do retainers or braces or suchlike until all the adult teeth are through?
