Advice and diagnosis needed. DS fingernails split at the bottom and peeling off

Hi
I need some advice. This week I have noticed that 2 of DS1 fingernails have split at the bottom of the nail and appear to be peeling off upwards, if that makes any sense. My mum thinks he's deficient in calcium, but I have tried researching and have found nothing. He eats a really good diet, lots of fruit and veg. Is it calcium deficiency. He's 5. And how to cure it?
Thanks
