Is this the start of Alopecia in my 12yo?

My dh noticed last night a bald patch on ds1's crown about the size of a 20p piece. Perfect unblemished skin underneath.

He is extremely self concious of his appearance and obsessive with his hair like many 12yo's.

He was really stressed about it last night, we had a family meal for my youngests birthday and he wore a slouchy beanie hat throughout!! He was alot more chilled out this morning tho about it and after school said that no one had noticed or said anything and seemed fine.

His stepmother arrived to collect him tonight to stay at his dad's for the weekend, and once he was in the car, mentioned to me sounded like alopecia and that he might lose all his hair Shock I said I didn't want to make a big thing of it as am aware that stress could make it worse and he has now calmed down about it. I want to keep an eye on the patch see if it increases and maybe see docs next week. Am aware if alopecia very little can be done, is this the case? Feel awful for him Sad

Hi Nicola,
My 10 year old has just developed a bald patch on the back of his head and I am quite worried about it. He hasn't noticed it but one of his friends made a comment so it won't be long before he knows. I just wondered how things were with your 12 year old? I have read a bit about Alopecia but as you say there does't appear to be anything you can do?
thanks
