Braces on 13yo-how long do they take to get used to?

Hi all. I'd really appreciate some wisdom on braces. My dd is having 2 extractions and them a top brace fitted onto her teeth. She has been invited camping for a week with a friend and her dad three days after- I'm wondering how long it could take to settle down? We could take her a few days later but don't want to land her friend's dad with a whingeing child!he could cope with the diet of mush, but a miserable child is pushing it I fear!! Thank you!

Hi,
I have to be honest... I had double fixed braces fitted when I was 13. It took a month to stop hurting and regular parscetamol. It won't hurt on the day but likely your dc will wake up the next day in pain as the tension on the teeth takes hold. I had then for 3 years and it was well worth while but hard at the time as every tightening ( once a month) led to some pain for a few days.

A trip might be a good distraction with some appropriate pain relief on
standby.

Good luck
