upset tummy- not for the fainthearted!

My DD (6 months) has an upset tummy. She is on 3 meals a day with no problems. A couple of weeks ago she had a runny tummy, which I put down to cow's milk on her cereal, but it was swiftly followed by a cold and her first two teeth.

Today she has diarroea again but it is worse- about 6 times today and it is very watery, green with white lumps in it, and quite loud and explosive. In herself she is fine, happy etc. I have only given her apples, rice and carrots today since it started and she is drinking her milk feeds (she is still on stage 1 formula). So does this sound like a) a bug b) teething c) issues with cow's milk (she had a muller rice yesterday and some cow's milk on her cereal again) and when should I worry/ take her to the doctor?

I'd cut out the dairy for a week and see what happens. If she has a tummy bug, you can get sensitive to dairy anyway (although formula is cows milk but actual dairy products are harder to digest for little ones).

Also carrots are a bit difficult too (why you sometimes see lumps of carrot in poo) and apples can trigger runny poo if too much! Stick to more fibrous stuff like sweet potatoes, potatoes, rice etc.

If her poo gets better then reintroduce dairy slowly - one thing every few days. If she gets the poo again, then you know the answer - speak to your doctor. Also I'd probably steer clear of stuff like muller rice anyway, it's quite processed!

OK, thank you! I thought apples, rice, toast and bananas were what you were supposed to have when you were ill (I googled!). I'll do sweet potatoes tomorrow. I wouldn't normally give her muller rice but we were unexpectedly out and my mum fed her yesterday!

Yes the BRAT diet - but current advice is to feed as normal really. I find that apples can give the runs if you have too much (it's the sugar - same with other fruits)!

Ah well - you say she seems ok so hopefully it's just a diet thing and she should grow out of it!
