Should I take DS2 to doctor? cold or something more?

DS2 (3) has had a high temperature (38.5-39.5) since Tuesday, although it does come down with ibuprofen and is now just on and off. He was fine last night but has a temp again this morning. He also has a cough, but no other symptoms. His best friend has scarlet fever but DS2 doesn't have a sore throat or rash.

I have just had something virtually identical (fever and coughing but not much else) and am finally feeling better after 10 days in bed. I saw the doctor several times for medical certificates etc but it definitely seemed to be viral.

Are we right to assume he has the same thing as me and just keep giving ibuprofen and plenty of fluids? or should we be taking him to the doctor?

I would definitely take him to the Dr's - that is quite a high temperature and he's had it for a while. It may well be what you have but personally I would want the Dr to tell me that and give me peace of mind. HTH!

Sorry, had to go out this morning and unexpectedly ended up being out all day! Thanks for replying - in the end I did insist that DH took him and he has a secondary infection and is now on antibiotics, so we definitely did the right thing...

Relieved he's OK and hopefully on the mend. Thanks for the update!
