he's been off school since last wednesday. He went back this wed but i was phoned to go collect him so i did and he's been off yesterday and today.

It started off with a high temperature and ds sleeping lots. then he developed a cough 2 days later which has got worse. He's been being sick with the cough for the last 5 days - phlegmy sick brought on by coughing.

today he's been asleep most of the day. i done him a hot bath this evening - he shivered the whole time then got out and was proper sick in the toilet.

He's now asleep again

His breathing has been fast since he first got ill and his temp is contunuously going up and down. sometimes its fine - like this afternoon it was down, but now its back up to 38-39 degrees

he's been docs twice (last time was wednesday) and both times the docs have said chest clear just a virus it will go.

i just thought i would post on here to see if anyone has any thoughts as he doesn't seem to have got any better over this week and a half.

Hes not blue around the mouth so dont think he's lacking oxygen. and his chest is supposedly clear so ive ruled out penumonia for now

I think if your ds has been drinking lots, eating regularly and is still wanting to play (although probably not as much as usual) I wouldn't worry too much and it probably is just a virus.

However, if he's very listless and his appetite has gone I would probably go to the walk in centre, doc's again for another opinion, trust your intuition

I hope he gets better soon

juicychops · 20/05/2011 18:42

He also complains of chest pains which i think is from coughing so much

thanks jemma1111 for replying. He's hardly eaten most of the time he's been ill he's lost quite a bit of weight by looking at him. He has moments where he is happy to play ie - the Wii! but then suddenly looses all energy and falls asleep

maybe il take him to the out of hours at the hospital in the morning. he's in bed sleeping again now

Juicychops

I really think you should get another opinion if he's not improving but instead seems to be getting worse, don't leave it,

Jemma1111 · 20/05/2011 18:49

Good luck, I'm sure he'll be ok soon Smile

juicychops · 20/05/2011 18:52

thanks i hope so. He's never ill so times like this its horrible cos he goes down like a tonne of bricks.

and ive used half of my holiday entitlement being off work to look after him

Sounds like a really nasty chesty bug. Definately take him to Out of hours tomorrow. If you're worried by anything new then go tonight. He will be fine soon i'm sure - jut maybe need a little treatment to fight thi one off

juicychops · 20/05/2011 19:18

hopefully thats all it is. poor thing. His body is so hot. im giving him medicine to help his temp but is it better to keep clothes on him to make him sweat it out or is it better to keep clothes off him?

If his temp deoesn't respond to the medicine I would take him to the doctors tonight. Yes the fever is his body's response but if you pile to many clothes on it will be harder for him to lose heat and feel comfortable. If you take everything off his temp won't drop but he will feel jolly cold! I tend to keep mine to one thinish layer plus light bedclothes.
