My DS is 8 and this is his fourth day of taking infant Piriton for hayfever an a sun allergy. But he is so drowsy! Not supposed to cause drowsiness, but like the adult version; it does. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Try elderflower cordial, a glass of squash in the morning. I use it, havn't needed to take any antihistamines for years now.

DS was put on adult loratidine tablets when he was about 9 or 10.

I've recently started taking Loratadine myself, found it effective and am not sleepy or crabby. Result.

Loratadine is OTC? Not horribly expensive?

Cetirizine is cheap and effective and can be bought OTC.

Otherwise desloratidine and fexofenadine are good but are on prescription.

Benadryl syrup is suitable for children over the age of 6 and can be bought OTC

Benadryl syrup is excellent and suitable.
