My DS (6) is in 5th day of nasty virus, we've had the vomiting bit at the beginning, now its just nasty cough but the bit Im concerned about is his temp, I've never seen it so high!! 40.8...can get it to 39.5 with nurofen. Thing is, he's sat up in bed, drinking and apart from being purple with heat!!! he seems quite ok!! Should I worry too much about this temp? I'm a worrier :) Ps. He was given penicillin by GP on Thursday cause she didn't like look of his throat, they have done diddly! obviously virus.

No, not at all, she has seen a GP and he was given penicillin. If he finishes the course of antibiotics and is still unwell or he becomes more ill then of course he should be seen again. The only thing that was concerning rattlesnake was the height of the temperature and I am just pointing out that it can be quite normal for children to have high temperatures with illnesses (mine do as well) so unless she is otherwise concerned/he gets worse etc then he will probably be fine.

rattlesnake, I hope your son is feeling better. Was it a 5 day course of antibiotics?
