Antibiotics for ear infection with perforated ear drum ?

Dd2, 4, has had ear ache building up & after alot of pain & crying on Sunday evening, her ear drum burst with pus coming out. She is absolutely fine in herself, however i've taken her to the dr to be checked out. He had prescribed antibiotics for her. This is her 2nd ear infection ever, last one was 8 months ago.

Does she really need the AB's, wouldn't she be better letting her immune system deal with this ?

She is otherwise very healthy..pus is still dwindling out, it's not quite been 48 hrs yet. Off to change pillowcase again !

According to our GP. The "hole" in the ear drum is a bit like an open wound so it can get really bad infections in. (he did explain it more medically but I can't remember the exact terms and I don't want to get it wrong but he said it was very important)
ds has had 5 or 6 burst eardrums in the last 4 months, he now doesn't usually have antibiotics for standard ear infections but they want him to get antibiotics asap once it's burst.

Definitely needs systemic antibiotics for a middle ear infection, or you risk ling term damage.

Doctors no longer prescribe them willy nilly, so if he gave them, he must think she needs them.
