Toddler with diastasis recti (stomach sticking out)

My 13 month old DS has diastasis recti, separation of the abdominal muscles. I know he has it because I have it myself (alas!) and therefore I know how to spot it - telltale ridge down the centre of the stomach when leaning back etc.

He isn't overweight at all (he's about average height and weight) but his stomach sticks out a lot. Some trousers are really tight on him. It's much more noticeable in the evening and after he's eaten, much like mine.

I read that most infant diastasis resolves by itself by about 9 months, and most of the remaining cases have resolved by 3 years old.

Does anybody else have experience of infant diastasis recti?

Hiya, I know this is an old post but thought I would cOmment anyway :-p
My 5 yr old boy has this. I always thought there was something not quite right with his stomach, always thought it looked a bit strange!! Lol. After being fobbed off by the docs for ages I thought I would research myself!! Only just discovered that it is this that he has! He has all the signs of it. Gap running down to his belly button (which btw is an 'outie' which apparently common in this), it pokes out when he goes to sit up from laying down, he ALWAYS looks bloated and he is quite a slim child. when he is relaxed I can really feel the 2 sides of his muscels. He was born 2 months early and read that it's common in prem babies. Will be going docs AGAIN to show them all this and hopefully they won't look at me like I'm crazy as usual!! Lol.
Do you/have you ever had any problems from this? I would like to know a little more about this if poss?? Does it need to be operated on? Xxx

Hi - I know that this is an old post but my little girl is 2 and 2 months and she has finally had a scan on her tummy and it has been confirmed that she has a Diastasis Recti - however they will do nothing about it and the only info that I have been given is what I have found myself - Anyone else got a little one with it (she was 14 days late so not even a prem baby)
x

Hi
I know these are old posts but does anyone have any updates about the child and if it closed on its own. Did they do anything to help it.
