should i go to A+E with DD?

Couple of friends have suggested i go as we have given it long enough and it is not getting better. I am very worried about DD but not sure if i should take her to A+E...

She has been very chesty for a few weeks now, had a course of antibiotics and now today got another course as she is still very chesty.

She started having very loose nappies last tuesday. This has made her bum so so sore, really severe :( It is agony for her, ive been using tepid water and cotton wool, and bepanthen or sudocrem. I have given her lots of time without nappy but it is not helping at all. Every nappy i change is loose. Since yesterday it is just water. She screams and screams, shakes and sweats when i have to clean her, or when she wees/poos.

She is eating and drinking as normal but seems quiet today. She has had 5 watery nappies since 6am.

Today the doctor said she didn't know what was wrong and i should bring her back on wednesday Hmm im in tears here now, i don't know what to do to help DD. The cream doctor gave made it worse, DD screamed, rolled round and round legs shaking in pain, bloody hell it was horrendous. I had to quickly wash it off which was agony for her.

This morning there was blood in her poo too.

Would you take her to A+E? It has been going on since tuesday last week.

Thanks for letting us know how you got on, and many hugs and get well wishes for your little one too

Oh thank goodness - so pleased that you got some sanity from the doctors! Even if it was a long wait, sounds like it was well worth it.
The egg white is an excellent tip when it's just raw skin from diarrhoea, but it's not good enough when there is a candidal infection.

Glad she seems a bit better

LessNarkyPuffin · 22/03/2011 12:42

Excellent.

25goingon95 · 22/03/2011 13:16

Thanks! :)

Yes it was worth the wait! We were exhausted last night and i have only just eaten for the first time in 24 hours Shock

We have to go back to the GP on wednesday because she wanted me to leave it until then...i don't want to face her after going to A+E just after seeing her!!! Blush She will make me feel stupid, i know it. What should i say?!! Should i cancel and say she is a bit better so appointment not needed? And then if DD needs another appointment (hope not!) i will see another GP?

Im glad i got DD sorted though, that is the main thing.

You don't have to go back to the GP at all. The problem has been resolved, nearly, hasn't it. So the GP will be able to do nothing else towards your DD's improvement. So - free up the appt for someone else - you don't need to give a reason for cancelling the appt!

And yes, next time try and see an alternative GP.

TysonNobdie86 · 22/03/2011 13:20

Yes I would cancel, she genuinely doesnt need to see a gp who cant even prescribe the correct cream!
Glad dd is getting better :)

25goingon95 · 22/03/2011 13:35

Yes i will cancel it then.

Thanks :)

Glad that today things seem to be better for you all. Definitely cancel the app..no point putting yourself thru seeing the unfriendly gp if your DD is on the mend.

EsioTrot · 22/03/2011 21:15

I'm so pleased your DD seems to be on the mend, great news.

25goingon95 · 23/03/2011 11:41

Thanks :) DD is back to her normal self today! Only 2 dirty nappies yesterday and one so far today, they look normal and her skin is looking so much better. She keeps crawling around really fast and giggling :) It really hurt her to move around so i think she is feeling so much better.

Thanks for the support! :)

oh that is good news! Glad we helped and you got the right treatment for her in the end :)

Am36butfeel66 · 23/03/2011 14:11

Oh that's good news about DD, it is horrible when they are ill, if you can let her have a bit of nappy free time getting the air to her skin will help too...but best have towel at hand for quick mop :).

25goingon95 · 23/03/2011 20:41

Oooohh nappy free time definately, she has had 3 hours of nappy free time today! So much easier now she doesn't have the diaorreah! Grim that was!

Her skin is healing nicely, she even enjoyed her play in the bath tonight! We were both in tears last time i bathed her!!

Can't believe how bad it was. The new cream is working wonders :)
