And tell me if it looks normal? Ds bum crack goes of on a slant. Sort of looks like a y shape. He also has a slight indentation but might not be able to see that.

Thanks

Hello. Mine goes off to one side.
I have scoliosis and also have what the doctors call a bony spur at the bottom of my spinal cord which causes it to split into an upsidedown Y instead of just going straight down.

I doubt very much that it is the same thing, from the photo it doesnt seems as pronounced, it could just be that lovely wrinkly newborn skin, from the photo he looks very young! If you are worried then a quick trip to the doctors should put your mind at rest.

I am not going to look, please don't tell me you have put a picture of your child's behind on your profile?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/03/2011 10:19

Fimbo it's a photo of a tiny baby's lower back.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 09/03/2011 10:20

You see much worse on a packet of baby wipes.

slowlygoingbonkers · 09/03/2011 10:41

Thanks abf. Yes he is just 4 monnths. I was curious as have never seen it before on the two eldest dc.

And no I've not put a pic of his bum on here, its covered up with his nappy and just shows the top part where it meets his back.

Worth a visit to the GP just to set your mind at rest as Ferret says.

Do you look like your ds in that way?

slowlygoingbonkers · 09/03/2011 11:46

No I have a "normal" bum. He needs more cream for his skin so think I will mention it when I go.

Ah ok. Sorry.

wideratthehips · 09/03/2011 15:53

i have this sort of shape at the top of my bum and i have scoliosis at the bottom of my spine so my coccyx turns to the side rather than under the bum. i didn't have any problems until i was 24 (just back pain) and it was confirmed by MRI when i was 24. don't know if its connected by my hips are slightly twisted with one leg shorter! its not noticable, i only had the pain after going through my basic army training!

how was he when he had his hip check? two out of my three had shallow sockets and i had to do the double nappy/froggy carry for a while and they are fine

slowlygoingbonkers · 09/03/2011 21:17

He was fine when he had his hips checked at birth. Do they do it again at the three month check? He hasn't had his yet despite being four months now. You wouldn't think this was my third would you.

Having hips checked wont show up any spinal abnormalities slowly
Im not sure if they re-do the hip check, I guess they would if you asked them. Everytime a doctor saw my 2 I would have them checking the spine, even if they went in for an eye infection! (paranoid much? Grin)

Let us know what the doctor says wont you.

slowlygoingbonkers · 10/03/2011 10:11

Will do amazing. Going to make an appointment just to put my own mind at rest.

DD1 and DD2 both have funny bottom creases! DD1's is exactly like your picture. She is 5 now and it is still the same, but obviously she is oblivious. A vigilant GP referred her as a baby to rule out certain conditons, but the final diagnosis was that she had a "funny bum crease." Grin

I would mention it to your GP, but I wouldn't be too worried.
