What's going on. I thought it was constipation but not sure now...

I have a 6 yr old.

About 5/6 weeks ago he came out of school white as a ghost and burst into tears saying he had tummy ache. Tucked him up in bed. He wasn't sick or a runny bum. By the afternoon of the following day his tummy felt better.

A week later the same thing occured, comes out of school with a hurting tummy. This time he had a few urgent dashes to the for a poo. It was loose but not runny. Took over a day for the tummy ache to go. His appetite hadn't gone - and he was wanting food even though he had pain.

2 weeks later. He comes out of school fine. We are walking home. He goes white as a ghost, bends over double and the tummy pains are back. To bed he goes. He had a few urgent dashes to the loo for a poo that day and the following day.

Then he doesn't do a poo 4 days. I am thinking 'constipation' so we go to the Dr who gives him some syrup stuff. We also up the fibre content of his diet which has always been pretty high. His poo's have been ok. Going each day, not too hard, not too soft.

Then last night after taking this syrup for about 2 weeks, he comes home happily from Beavers. Full of life. Goes to bed happily. I heard him go the loo about 10 mins later and he shouted me up.

He was sat on the loo doing a poo ( loose-ish), awful shade of white. Shaking, retching and in agony, tummy had swollen and looked very bloated.

Eventually managed to tuck him up in bed again. Tummy gradually deflates but he has pain in the right hand side of his stomach. Still stomach ache at 3am this morning and at 6.30am.

I thought it was constipation. I am not so sure now..... I don't think it is a viral thing as we have been ok and he's not been sick.

Obviously I will try to get him to the Dr today again but I really would like to hear if you have had similiar with your kids and what happened?

Thanks lots

I have upped the amount of liquid my son is drinking. He has a weak bladder anyway so now he really cannot stop weeing! At the park today for nearly 2hrs - 4 wee's needed!

I am liking the sound of linseeds. I am going to add them to meals for us all.

Are you sure he's not allergic to gluten/wheat/lactose intolerant? He also needs checking for chrones. If he's had a very bad bout of diarrhoea then he will need a couple of days for his stomach to return to normal so not pooping can be normal. I think he needs to be looked at by a paediatrician to be honest.

I presented atypically as a teenager for appendicitis and it got to the point where after three days in hospital with no pain relief and FIVE consultants poking and prodding (suggesting impaction, ectopic pregnancy, IBS, every bloody thing) they 'cut me open to have a look around' and lo, it WAS my appendix.

Please don't dismiss this as a possibility, they sound like very similar symptoms.
