baby's tummy cramps up overtime she is on her back

She is 8 mos and this happens many times throughout the day, for the past 2 wks, every time she is on her back and sometimes while on her side. Her knees come up, her body tenses, her hands clasp together, her face turns red and she makes similar sound to when she poos only much louder. When she is distracted while doing this, she stops and is fine, laughs, plays, etc.

As my Dr pointed out, she has control over the cramping action ie she can stop when she wants, and doesn't seem too distressed. It's not colic or constipation he said/checked. She does it after she has pooed so again, it's not constipated (most people thinks it's constipation).

She doesn't do this when she wants my attention as she does it when she has it. It's v strange and my Dr and his paediatrician wife were both stumped. Could it be a habit she has developed or psychosomatic? anyone experience this/similar? Thx.
