hi, my 3 yr old DS seemed very under weatehr a couple of weeks ago. temp of 39 and rash all over face and body (but not legs and arms). GP thought it was scarlet fever and gave antibiotics- temp went down within a day and rash went gradually.

Anyway, tests said it was acute tonsilitis not scarlet fever. we finished the course of antibiotics.

BUT, 2 weeks later he is still under weather, seems exhausted alot, on and off food etc. is this normal for a bad dose of tonsilitis?

did they test for glandular fever? we have had very similar symptoms and until we pushed for tests noone had a clue what it was and just kept pounding her with antibiotics. if he is that tired, it is a possibility.

I had tonsilitis a month ago and only just feeling right again so
I would say it was normal.

Hope he is better soon

I had a horrible case of tonsillitis last year I was hospitalised and given IV antibiotics, docs thought it was glandular fever as I was so unwell. Blood tests determined it wasn't but I had 2.5 weeks off work (I'm never off) and took me about a month to feel normalish. Apparently tonsillitis & GF symptoms are very similar but GF takes much much longer to recover from and usually anti biotics have no effect on it.

You should go back to the GP get him checked out & a bit if advice.

Hope he's better soon.
