DD is suddenly weeing loads and I am worried sick- it is her heart

DD has a blood vessel condtion which is undiagnosed as of yet. She has only ever had around 2-3 wet nappies a day. The last week she has been having soaking nappies around 9 a day, she has even burst the cyrstals out of them. She has also been having swollen ankles.

We are going to see her consultant on Thursday but I am worried sick it is something to do with her heart as stupidly googled.

Sorry to hear you are going through this, you must be terribly worried. If you are very concerned, then please seek medical advice tonight (or tomorrow via GP)

Yes agree, if you are seriously worried you should get her seen straight away, certainly if she has swollen ankles at the moment? Has she been drinking more? A heart condition normally results in fluid retention as far as I have experienced so weeing more may be an improvement. But if you are very worried get her seen tomorrow at the latest.

Aw, I'm sorry you are going through this worry as well. Would you consider calling NHS 24 and seeing an out of hours doctor for some medical perspective and tell them how worried you are after reading google. They may be able to eliminate some of the fears you have quickly.

I was going to take her to the gp tomorrow but as we are seeing her consultant thursday didnt know if it was worth it as they generally dont know what to do as they dont know what her condition is.

We were at a and e sat night as she developed bright red rings round her ankles and white spots round them and they just sent her home as they are all mystified. Guess I just have to wait till Thursday. Surely if it is her heart she would have some other symptoms wouldnt she?

Do see the Dr tomorrow. Even if just to get your worries off your chest. If you get more worried tonight go to A&E. You aren't making a fuss.

I hope it's nothing serious. And could you update tomorrow and Thurs cos' we do wonder how these little ones are getting on.

Will keep you updated. Just feel my doctor will be sick of us she has been there at least once a week since xmas as she has had a uti, croup, a ear infection and conjunctivitis

I don't know I'm afraid. Was that a children's hospital a and e or a general hospital? If the swelling on her ankles is new in addition to the redness and spots I would still call tonight or go tomorrow. I would go just to get the worries off your chest too.

How old is she? I think you need this checked out asap (I may be overreacting but as a GP I would want to dip her wee for protein and sugar, check her chest, probably send into a paeds ward for review).

If she has an odd condition it may well be normal for her to have this. But until you know that for certain I think you have to assume it is not normal - it wouldn't be normal for most children, anyway. I wouldn't think you were making a fuss at all. Why not go to out of hours? They are usually hospital based so can get a paed to review her without too much difficulty.

Your GP will see plenty of regulars... Many with no real reason to be there unlike your little DD. If you have a decent GP they will Be secretly delighted you are not afraid to keep returning whilst your DD needs medical help and you need some support ( it's not easy worrying about a little one - takes it out of you mentally and physically).

With little ones - Dr's would rather you popped in to have chat about any health worries. So you are not being a pest.

Hi mummytopebs very sad to read this latest development. I would ring your specialist urgently tomorrow. Go back to the GP and then still consider going to A&E at a hospital with a large childrens' department.

I'm surprised they've not done any test to rule out diabetes - not because of her existing condition but suddenly wee'ing loads can be an idicator.

Our local hospital doesnt have any childrens services now just a general a and e doctor i saw.

She has just turned 1. I will ring her consultant at the childrens hospital we go to tomorrow to see what he suggests. He may ask her to come in if he is worried as we are seeing him thursday anyway. The childrens hospital we go to is an hour from our house but if you go the gp they send you to a different local hospital with a small childrens ward, there is absolutly no point going there as they jusy say they dont know and to get in touch with the childrens hospital - arrrgh

mummytopebs - hope you get some answers from your consultant today.

It's worth asking him if you can have open access to the ward at the children's hospital. We had this for dd when she was small and rather than having to go to GP or sit in A&E if we were worried we could call the ward and take her straight in. It's quite often offered to parents with children who have difficult medical conditions.

Hi just to update. DD got a temp yesterday of plus 40 and her hand and arm turned black we went straight to a and e and she was diagnosed with a urine infection and upper respiartory tract infection.

We went to see her consultant today who unfortunatly is still none the wiser. He is organising some more bloods to be took and another heart scan and a kidney scan and a scan of the arteries from her heart to her limbs, as the colour change is now predominatly on the left.

How scary Sad Hope the antibiotics (assuming they gave them to her?) work fast, and that you get some answers soon.

I am bloody thick... The other day I spent ages trying to find the thread about the lady whose little daughter had become a human pin-cushion with consultants (eventually on board) trying to find out what was wrong with her... I was wondering how things were going...

And it's you on here.....

I hope she gets over the urine infection/ fever etc asap. And still got my fingers crossed they get to the bottom of the blood issues for her.

And you have to keep updating cos I often wonder how you are. Will make a note of your name now....

And Elibean yes we did get antibiotics so hopefully they will start to kick in soon. And I am hoping this urine infection is why she has been weeing so much and is not the vessel problem

Do ask about getting open access mummytopeps. You shouldn't have to sit in A&E everytime she's ill.

Fingers crossed the next lot of tests give some insight into what's going on.
