I am pretty sure that this is nothing, but should I get it checked anyway ??

Ds is 8 and everynow and again he gets chest pains accompanied by nausea or vomitting.

I am 99.9% certain that it is anxiety, but should I take him to the gp anyway ??

A doc listened to his heart in a&e about 3mths ago (for something unrelated) and nothing was mentioned.

He has had it today, said his chest hurt (pointing to centre of chest) and that he felt sick. Kept him off school and he was absolutly fine.

On previous occasions he has told me, and then gone panicku and been sick.

what is he anxious about?

Could be a number of things including some kind of digestion problem...can you think about things he may have eaten before these episodes?

Heartburn and reflux can hurt in the centre of your chest area...you should get it seen as the worry of it will bug you.

I think I would as it is chest pain. My ds2 (10) has problems with anxiety, but he gets awful stomach pains. As soon as his anxiety eases the pain goes. Chest pain sounds a bit different though.

He also had stomach ache, forgot to say.

I think it is anxiety because it sometimes happens before school, and the other times it has happened has been after he has been ill with a vomitting bug, and i think the thought of being sick makes him panic.

This morning, he had eaten weetabix and drunk tea.

It's hard to explain but he always looks anxious when this happens too, but then I suppose you would if you had chest pains.

Does it happen before school or at other times?

Well it's not happened for a while tbh, today was the first time in ages, and was before school.

The last time was after he'd had a bug and had been sick in the night. Then he got panicky before bedtime and complained of chest pain and feeling sick, and would then vomit.

Also once he thought I was going to tell him off for something and he got all upset and panicky, and complained of chest pain and that he couldn't breathe. I wasn't even going to tell him off.

Would suggest keeping diary of when this happens so you can see if there is any corrolation to food/potential causes of anxiety.

Chest pain is v common physical manifestation of anxiety - as a paeds A&E nurse I've seen similar cases. Would also suggest talking to his teacher as there may be something underlying (especially if the symptoms regularly clear up once he's off sick for the day).

Heartburn is less likely in such a young child, but if there doesn't seem to be any pattern emotionally to the pain it could be worth considering.

Thank's, will def keep a note of when it is happening.

I don't think there is anything in particular going on at school, he just doesn't like going, never has. Had parents evening last week and there were no concerns at all, and I did ask specifically about a ny problems with friends etc.

Will see what happens tomorrow.

It could be panick attacks bles him...but maybe not...the only way is to go to the GP.

It's the first step in getting them to stop whatever they are. I hope he feels better soon
