Is Chicken Pox doing its rounds and did your little one get a cough/cold before hand?

DS has had cold symptoms with a dry cough for the past few days. Yesterday I noticed a child at DS's nursery covered in spots. They did look like they had scabbed over but only just. Today I noticed one big spot on DS's face, he doesn't seem to find it itchy though.

I'm just wondering what the likelyhood is of him having chicken pox. He's very unsettled tonight the dry cough is bothering him and I have a feeling we're in for a long night Sad.

I better read up a bit about chicken pox and pregnancy too, I'm almost 33 weeks pregnant but otherwise healthy.

Chickenpox is out and about here, dd2 (9 months) caught it from my friends son. She had cold like symptoms for 5ish days before spots came. Waiting for dd1 to have it now Sad . Decided not to do usual activities this week in case dd1 is infectious (playing it safe as there's lots or tiny babies at toddler group) so we're bored bored bored!

Don't know about chickenpox and pregnancy, sorry. Always NHS direct/ GP/ nurse to ask?

Hope he was ok last night by the way! It took a few days for all if dd2 spots to develop and blisters lasted a week.

Might be - chicken pox is generally rife from Jan to April or something, I seem to remember. My DD had it last Feb. She was grumpy first and had a bit of a temp, then had one spot on her leg to begin with. It didn't seem to bother her much. Then she got more each day until by day 3 or 4 it was obviously chicken pox.

Hope he wasn't too unsettled last night.

Thanks YC and Galena for sharing your experencies. DS was unsettled last night and ended up in bed beside me so I could keep him propped up on pillows. He coughed on and off most of the night, woke up at 5.45 for toilet and that was him up for the day.

I expected to have to keep him off nursery but he didn't seem unwell at all this morning (im like a zombie due to sleep deprivation) and he ate breakfast and was playing. Other than a runny nose he has no other symptoms. The one spot I had noticed on his cheek has dried up and he didnt scratch it so i'm assuming it's been a cold at this stage.

I spoke to the nursery teacher this morning and she said about half of the children in the class have a runny nose/cold. They will keep an eye on him and offer extra fluids.

Hope it passes in a day or two and it's not the start of something like chicken pox.
