Baby has a cold all the time - early sign of asthma?

Hi,

I have a 9mo baby and she has a cold virtually all the time. From September to now she has had a cold back to back with maybe around 2 weeks in between where she doesn't have one.

I know why she has them - I have twin 3 yos and they bring home everything going from nursery but she suffers really badly with them - loads of mucus and really grouchy.

She has also had a terrible napping pattern for the last 5 months - 30 minutes twice a day if I am lucky - sometimes can be as little as twice a day.

I went to the GP yesterday and she said constant mucusy colds can be an early sign of asthma (although they are saying it is only a possibility) and I need to take her to the GP every time she has a new cold so they can monitor her.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Thanks

Thanks.

Has she ever had any chest problems?

as she is in nursery I wouldn*t worry (yet). as she is 9 months old I guess that she only started nursery.
my ds started nursery when he was 9 month old in sept and had a constant cold (mostly just snotty nose and/or cough) until march. he is 4 now and fine. no asthma in sight.
just monitor her, as the gp advised. it probably is nothing, just that she is more prone to getting bugs at the moment.

One of mine always has colds the other doesn't. Some kids just get more of them I think. I wouldn't worry too much.

can't answer about the colds but just wanted to say my DD was exactly the same with her sleeping patterns and I rarely got her to have more than 2 30 minute naps each day. Sometimes she would just grab a 10 minute power nap in the car and that would be it!

It wasn't til she had got past 1 yo when she would have about an hour in the afternoon. It was an absolute pain in the bum I can tell you!

good luck with shaking off the colds though
