mole on the sole of foot

DD2(5) has a mole on the sole of her foot, it's light brown, not raised and a regular oval shape, about 3mm long. I've been looking at it carefully over the past few months and it doesn't seeem to have changed at all. is it something I should be concerned about?

I've heard stories (mostly from random googling)that moles on the soles of the feet can be very dangerous and it's praying on my (neuroic motherly) mind. Should I be worried or am I just being my normal neurotic-mother self??

Should have mentioned it's at the back, on the heel of her foot.

Thanks in advance for any comments! xx

My son has a mole on the sole of his foot too. Never heard anyone say it could be a problem. Why should a mole on the foot be any different from anywhere else Confused? I can only suggest that you ask your GP, sorry. (I will be googling it too, now).

I had one which I only noticed when pg with ds1. Doctor friend told me to have it checked out and they cut it off just to be on the safe side I think.

Didntturn outo be anything butthey said they are cautious with feet so I woukd take her to your gp just to check.

Sorry typing one handed

I think because you are not looking at the soles of your feet very often the general consensus is that things can be missed.

I had one removed - although this was in the US where they are ultra cautious - but I got the gist and better safe than sorry and I am Very moley so get checked often...- that said it was pretty painful both to be done and afterwards. Mine was in the arch of my foot so maybe a bit more 'tender ' than the heel?

RiojaLover75 · 18/01/2011 19:19

I have one on the sole of my left foot in the arch. Never caused me any problems at all, promise Smile

Thanks everyone! I've read that it's because the sole of the foot is an area which has constant friction on it that it could be a problem... may well just be an urban myth though. I'm still in a quandary over whether to go to the GP or not...

Go and get it checked out Freddo better safe than sorry if you're worried about it.

greedychops · 18/01/2011 23:02

Definitely better to be on the safe side I would say. The gp will not be bothered if it turns out to be nothing.

FreddoBaggyMac · 19/01/2011 13:04

Thanks everyone! Bit the bullet and took her to the GP this morning. GP said it looks fine but that it is something we should keep a close eye on looking for any changes. She made a record of it and said to bring DD back in a year's time for them to check it again. So glad I went and my mind is now much more at rest Smile

hmmm my 3 year old had his only mole on the sole of his foot, never worried about it but now i have read your post.... and he has been complaining of sore feet for a week or two, including in every shoe in the shop the other day... gp visit already booked!

Borisismyhousespider · 19/01/2011 23:14

I have a mole on the sole of my left foot, it's not caused me any bother so far and I'm stepping away from google!

FreddoBaggyMac · 20/01/2011 14:07

Boris Smile

GP said that the real cause for concern was if a new one suddenly appeared on an adults foot - if you've had it for a while and it hasn't changed chances are it's fine!

Hope everything is fine Peasized - I'm sure it will be fine just like it was with my DD but it's very reassuring to hear that from your GP!

Yup - I'm sure it's more new ones or if they bother you. Mine was new - wasn't sure exactly how long but I knew it hadn't been there for long, and my mum noticed it too and knew I didn't use to have one, so that's why they took it off I think.
