Am confused and in need of advice. A few things have coincided with DS and I wondered if anyone else feels the following are linked:

  • DS is 8 and is getting BO
  • His teacher says he's falling asleep in class - though I'm following his normal routine (he does at least an hour of exercise a day, I get him into bed by 19:30, he/we read, lights out by 8
I'm confused by the tiredness thing - he is well - could a hormonal change be exhausting? Any thoughts?

Could be. Have a look into elliptocytocis, this is what have, and your DS sounds like me at 8. It was the start of puberty that totally knocked me out.
(Obviously it may not be this for your DS)
Hope he gets better soon.

There are lots of bugs going round, but none of my pupils at school are falling asleep. If instinct is telling you that something's wrong it would be worth getting your gp to check him out.
Hooe he's soon on the up.

Scary?

Elliptocytocis - seems a big scary leap but I'll raise it with the GP Hmm

It's not scary (to us anyhow :) )
Few people have it, even fewer know about it (including GPs) but once you know what its about everything falls into place.
it was a young locum over 25 years ago at our surgery who diagnosed me, all the females in mybfamily have it.
Just means your blood cells are elliptical / sausage shaped rather than round, does not affect life in any way at all.
Sorry if that was scary but your DS sounds just like me at his age. Blush

dd8 went thru the body odour thing when she just turned 8. had a massive growth spurt and her hip joint went crazy last yr. This resulted in her tendons/ligaments not keeping up with her bones. agony ( but different to growing pains as was eventually diagnosed)

I truly believe it was a hormone surge. It sound like your son is having this, combined with time of year, viruses etc...

dd's boobs changed overnight too, most alarming, as she is a skinny little thing and now has very prominent nipples. A trip to th gp will prob put your mind at rest op. take care.
