Anyone know of a specialist consultant for dealing with sleep apnoea?

My GP has pretty much such he will refer us anywhere we need to go with our 10 month old DS who has been holding his breath in his sleep since he was a tiny baby. Now all we need to know is who is out there to help us - Oxford? Birmingham? London perhaps?

I would think any good ENT consultant? dd2 saw Mr Sandhu in London (Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, or privately in Harley Street) and he has an excellent reputation, and was lovely. But I'm sure there are some nearer to you.

Thanks. We've had a bad experience with our local paediatric registrar (at Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry) over the last 5 months, hence being very pleased to be having a fresh start about it.. We're not really sure whether we need a sleep disorder clinic, an ENT surgeon (though I think not as it does not appear to be obstructive sleep apnoea) or a respiratory specialist. And then there's always the chance that it could be neurological...

Dr Martin Samuels at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire specialises in sleep disordered breathing in children (sleep apnoea and the like) - I'm a paeds reg who has worked with him. He's a paediatric respiratory consultant but this is one of his special interests, he does very detailled sleep studies to look at the pattern of the pauses in breathing which helps identify the cause, and goes from there.
