DD 11 month has been on amoxcillian for 3 days for croup. She has never been a brilliant sleeper but has always gone off at 7 till at least 10 before waking. Since she has been amoxcillan she has halfed her daytime nap and just will not go to sleep, she doesnt seem tire. She is sat playing now!! Has anyone experienced this, please tell me its not a long term thing. She is also on nofedipine and asprin so I am wondering if this is reacting or something

Yes, ds had this. he is sensitive to artificial colours and reacts to those in antibiotics. if it is the colouring then should only last a few days after finishing the course of antibiotics.

is it the yellow one? if so it has E104 in it some kids inc mine react very badly to it. Not long term thing but exhausting

mummytopebs · 01/01/2011 21:42

Yes it is the bright yellow one. Do you think its worth me swapping for another? Her croup has compltely gone now but they say to finish the course dont they. She is now chatting to our cat lol

They stopped suppling the colouring free one. If you can stick with it, would be best. How much longer has she got of the course?

Ds is now 6 so big enough to have amoxicillin capsules opened and crushed into jam. If he wasnt we would no longer have a choice. The scrapping of the colouring free preps in the uk was political unfortunately.

Croup is caused by a virus so am surprised she has ab's anyway.

mummytopebs · 01/01/2011 21:59

She got the antibiotics as she has a pre-exsisting blood vessel condition that means her blood vessels close down when she gets a temp, and sometimes for no reason at all. When they listened to her chest it was quite wheezy so started her on them to stop it getting worse. She has 4 days left on it

It's not always to do with colours, DS is hyperactive on antibiotics.
He was the same when he last had clarithromycin at 13 and was given in tablet form with no colouring.
