I have my 4yr old ds booked in for his flu jab at midday today but ever since his last set of vaccinations he is now terrified of the doctors surgery Sad

Does anyone have any tips on how to avoid this trip to the doctors becoming another traumatic experiance?

My doctor gave DS a lolllpop, asked me to hold him and then gave MMR ie 2 injections. He didnt' move / make a sound. It was a bit wierd. Even the Dr was surprised!

I know that it won't work for everyone, but definitely take some favourite sweets.

Emla patch. Takes all/most of the pain away. DS had tetanus booster and something else few weeks ago-didn't even feel it (and he's a hysterical type).

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Ds didn't end up having it in the end. I said in my op that he is 4 but he's actually 4 on christmas day (so only 1wk &1day away) but they had no vaccines that could be used on under 4's.

Wish they has told me before I had dragged ds and 4 month old dd all the way to the surgery especially in this weather Angry

Anyway he's booked back in for the 31st so fingers crossed it will go well and will be trying all your suggestions.

Thank you all once again Smile
