2.11 yo DS has had cold, cough for a week and is now throwing up - am I safe to go to work?

I work in a school (am a teacher), we have been warned norovirus is doing the rounds, is it a risk if I go to school tomorrow? Or would I pass it on?

Don't want to be irresponsible with regards the health of others, but similarly don't want to be unprofessional. Not sure what to do.

DS has had cold cough and mild fever on and off for a week and has now started throwing up if he eats anything.

I don't seem to have any symptoms.

DD, Dh and myself all had a nasty bug which manifested as a grotty cold for 7-10 days, a day or two of vomiting and diahorrea (sp?!) and then a further week or two of cold.

The sickness wasn't a sicky bug as such - it was all part of the cold. Dr even agreed that it wasn't a stomach bug. Maybe your DS has something similar. (Unless you'd prefer to have the day off, in which case, phone in! )

I don't want to day off at all - recently signed off for a fortnight with bronchitis and flu - hate to take more time as well.

it sounds exactly the same as yours. DS won't leave me alone, poor thing. I'm struggling to get to the loo!

In which case, if DS will be ok without you tomorrow, you'll be fine to go to work.

Keep an eye on him over the next week though - DD's turned into a chest infection.

There's no quarantine period for contacts of an illness such as you describe. For as long as you remain without symptoms, there is no need to miss work.

thanks - that's good news. I work with a few other pregnant women (am 24 weeks myself) and would hate to pass something on
