12 week old baby and I think I've got a primary herpes infection

Firstly I'm sorry because I know this has been done before but I've just read the threads - that's what's worried me so much.

I've got 4 sores on the inside and top of my lower lip. The first one started about 5 days ago. In the last couple of days I've developed massive lymph modes in my neck and under my chin. I've got a painful swollen raw area at the back of my mouth. I'm feeling achey and generally crap.

DD is 12 weeks and breastfed, and we cosleep, and I carry her in a sling lots. Basically loads of close contact. Obviously I haven't been kissing her since this started but I'm quite worried that it's inevitable that she'll get it - after all, viral shedding is meant to be at its highest in primary infections and might even be airborne.

Will BF offer her any protection? My immune system is obviously pulling out all the stops, judging by my glands and how crap I feel. Can't find anything relevant online.

Should I see the GP as a matter of course - will they be able to do anything to protect her? I'd said I'd go myself if I'm no better tomorrow but I'm wondering about DD now.

I would see your GP first thing in the morning, if nothing else to put your mind at rest. They can give babies antivirals if it's needed, but the earlier they are given the better they work as far as I understand.
They thought DS2 had infected herpetic eczema when he was 4 months, luckily he didn't but they had anti-virals ready and waiting, just in case.

Thanks. I've been trying to get through to them this morning.
