upset tummy and now small red spots on face

my ds (7) was up during the night throwing up. today he has been the same. he seems to be able to eep small bit of food down but he cannot keep any liquids down. he has now got small red dots (about 10) down one side of his face and about 5 round his other eye in a cluster. he does seem to be feeling better in himself but still throwing up now and then. temperature is normal. is it likely just to be a tummy bug?

Yes, very likely. Keep trying with the drink as dehydration is the worrying bit.

The little red spots are probably burst blood vessels. DD gets them if she vomits. So does my brother and dh. Especially round the eyes. Tiny red pinprick spots? It's the force of being sick that does it.

All that said, if you're worried you must call ooh.

Do the spots blanch? Press a glass against them -if they do not fade under the pressure, go straight to A&E.

If they are burst blood vessels from vomiting they will not blanch under a glass. You might want a professional's opinion on this but please don't panic as it is a relatively common and innocuous occurance

thanks for your replies, i think it is burst blood vessels, he does goes extremely red when throwing up. he's managed to have something to eat for tea and a drink and is now tucked up in bed asleep, hopefully for the rest of the night

Hope he feels better tomorrow, dd2 has had it for almost 3 days (vomiting and temp) and has only just started sipping water, hopfuly we can get her to eat something tomorrow. Hope he stays asleep for you and you get some sleep.
