DS2 is 5 weeks - he started to go down with a cold (mainly a cough) at the end of last week (DS1 caught the cold at school and passed it on). The cough progressively got worse so we took him to out of hours GP on Sat - after thorough exam (chest/ears clear no temp) it was declared a cold. Anyway the cough got worse so we took him to our GP on Mon after another check told the same its just a bad cold. Yesterday DS2 fed badly (he's FF - BF for the first 10 days)last night he fed at 6pm and took around 3oz then refused his feed at 10pm and again refused at around 1am. At 6am this am after a night of coughing (we've proped up the moses basket at one end and in the end DS2 ended up sleeping on my chest from 2-6am he settled that way) he eventually took just under 3oz I tried feeding him again at 9am and he took 1oz and again at around 11am when he took 1oz. He's very sleepy and also has conjunctivitus which I'm gently cleaning away with cooled boiled water and cotton wool.

After seeing two docs I beginning to feel like I must be nureotic (sp?)still being overly concerned but the poor feeding (he was taking 3-4oz sometimes 4.5 oz every 3-4 hrs) and the coughing/grizleyness/sleepiness is making me concerned. He is weeing and pooing but obviously not much (he didn't poo yesterday).

The HV is doing a routine new baby visit later so I can run it past her but I'm just starting to feel very stressed - please feel free to give me a sanity check or any words of wisdom. DS2 looks so miserable and we are even more knackered than normal as I can't sleep at all through the coughing and the chest sleeping is giving me a stiff neck (I prop myself up to make sure I'm uncomfy enough not to roll when I do sleep!!).

I saw 3 GP's with ds2 when he was 3 weeks old the first 2 said it was just a cold the 3rd sent us to hospital to be checked as Ds2 was struggling to feed and was very sleepy :( he was admitted on oxygen for 8 days he had broncholitis.
Go with your instinct and get him checked again by doctors or even go to A&E x

Get him checked for Broncholitis. It is very common at this time of year.

Poor feeding.
Pale complexion.
Grunting/working hard to breath.
Sleepy.
Throwing up entire feeds.

Hope all goes well.

just an update (ds2 in arms so excuse typing|)- spent 2 nights in hospital with broncolitis - got discharged last night - ds2 has a hacking cough but looks better and is feeding more regularly. The hospital was full of bronc babies (their name for it|)apparently there is an epidemic at the mo. Thanks for all the help and hopefully ds will continue to get better over the next few days.
