Should I be worried? 2.5 weeks of upset tummy for 7mo

DS2 has had an upset tummy for 2.5 weeks. He was sick several times in the early days, but now it's just diarrhoea. Even that varies in consistency, from almost normal to horrible mucus-y slop, sometimes in the same day.

I took him to the doctor last week, who said that as he's well hydrated, not losing weight, sleeping normally and still eating/feeding like a trooper then there was nothing that needed to be done. DS2 still seems absolutely normal in himself, it's just the diarrhoea.

Any ideas what it could be? And should I do anything?

No, they are just full of sugar. Digestive enzymes like yakult should help. I hope he's feeling better soon. GP should have sent a sample off to be honest.

Will nip to Tesco to get some yakult then! (Assume Tesco will stock it?) If he's not right by the weekend then I'll take him back to the GP. Should I take a dirty nappy with me for a sample (boak)?

At least he's happy in himself. And none of the rest of us have caught whatever it is he has, so it can't be too contagious.

Tesco do, it's in the same place as the actimel where the milk is. I wouldn't take a dirty nappy, just ask for a specimine bottle and a request form. It should go by itself, the yault should replace any lost bacteria in his intestines. People with IBS are advised to take it because it really does help.

DS2's diarrhoea is definitely improving since I started giving him Yakult. But it's still not normal - smells more like vomit than poo (IFKWIM) and has that sort of grainy texture that unweaned baby poo has. Worth taking him to the doctor, do you think?

Yes, I'd take him back. I hope he's OK.

Doctor said to starve him for 24 hours - cooled boiled water (flavoured with a drop of apple juice if he won't take it plain) and nothing else.

Poor mite. I hope he's on the mend soon. Did the GP moan about the yakult? Some do, the paediatricians tell the parents to give their children this though.

No, the doctor didn't moan about the Yakult. Didn't seem to mind one way or the other, TBH. Our 24 hours are nearly up - it's been easier than I expected because he's been happy to fill up on water. Yes, he's had more bottles than usual, but that's a small price to pay compared to the screaming fury I expected!
