ds was 5 in july and i just weighed him. he is 18.1kg and he is about 110cm. is that about normal?

i am concerned because i don't think he is eating enough. never has really. he gets school dinners so is eating less in the evenings. tonight he ate 5 chips Sad he eats plenty of fruit but not enough veg. his school dinner lady told me he does eat his dinners but usually not all of it, unless it is something like sausage beans and chips.

my 5yo is 19.8kg and is 115cm. i have no idea what is 'normal' but he fits his clothes fro the right age etc. He will be 6 in 4 weeks. My 8yo on the other hand is 24.6kg and 124cm tall, he is a whole other story as has learning disabilities and is foog phobic Sad.

that sounds fine to me. my dd1 is also a july baby and is 5. she weighs about 17.5kg and is about 104cm. she is on something like 25 percentile. plot those numbers in your red book and see where he comes out percentiles-wise- you'll know where he is compared to where he has been previously in his life then.

sorry i meant 5 yo is 25.4kg got my conversion for him wrong.

Why would he not be eating enough? Has he been ill, upset about anything?

Some children just don;t eat much; my five year old weighs 14 kg and about the same height as your ds; she eats like a bird but is very healthy and strong so there is no reason to be worried.

sounds fine to me - DS2 was 18kg and 121cm at 5 - but he's always been one of the tallest in his year (he's now YR2 and there's about 5 in the entire year that tower above everyone else).

booyhoo · 18/11/2010 17:58

belgo he has always been a picky eater and seems to survive on very little. it just worries me.

he has always been on 25 percentile. i will plot those numbers and see.

he does seem in good health doesn't get sick often and is happy. i just worry that he isn't getting enough.

thank you all for sharing.

From what you describe, he sounds absolutely fineSmile

booyhoo · 18/11/2010 18:04

thanks belgo. it was just tonight's dinner i think that got me worrying. 5 chips really isn't much at all.

Think DS was about that at that age. Hes now 6.3 and 121cm and 21.5kg. Not sure whats average, he is very healthy but one of the smallest in his year but the same height as older yr 1's.
