My 3 year old daughter woke up crying in the night complaining that her ear hurt. I gave her nurofen and she has slept through since.

Do you think I should take her to the Doctor to have it looked at? Or can it just go away by itself? Some ailments are worth watching to see if they right themselves, is earache like this, or does it once started need resolving?

Hope this makes sense, I'm quite bolloxed and sleep deprived, her crying set the 16 month off and then the 12 week old Shock It was so bad my husband even woke up Grin

I would take her to the dr's. DS1 has suffered with earache on and off since he was 6 months old (he is now 13) and it usually means he has an infection.

Took my 4 year old to the doctor on Friday because my husband and mother in law nagged me to. Doctor told me just to keep giving Calpol and hot water bottle for him to lie with his ear on and was a virus which would take 5 days to get over. He's fine now.

If your daughter is very distressed and has a high temperature she probably has an ear infection and might need antibiotics.

I suffered from recurrent ear infections as a child and they are excrutiatingly painful.
