Tiny bits of gravel in a graze

sheeplikessleep · 14/11/2010 17:11

Any advice on best way to get it out? DS1 is just 3 and very resistant to us doing anything, but it is hurting him and want to prevent it getting infected.

I know only a minor thing, but I'm sure someone has a trick on this one!

Thanks

Rub gently with an old toothbrush?

pointydog · 14/11/2010 17:12

Encourage him to have a nice warm bath? Might help.

pointydog · 14/11/2010 17:12

lol @ old lady

Stick him in the bath for a soak, it will come out when the skin gets nice and soft.

Flush out with water or a bath

Warm baths with a teaspoon of salt in should help the gravel come out by itself over the next few days. You can put a warm flannel on the graze throughout the day too. It shouldn't get infected if you keep the wound clean and use a little antibiotic cream like Germoline. I remember as a kid it was quite fun to pick the scabs off and see little bits of my driveway in them lol.

Thanks all for posting. We were going to let him soak in the bath. Hopefully he'll keep his hand in the water (on palm of his hand).

I tried with cotton wool and warm water and he isn't having any of it, I'm having to bribe him to even let me look at it!

Can't believe he's got to 3 before I've had to post this query!

Thanks all

honey is the best thing - the cheaper the better...

you could try magnesium sulphate on a plaster if it's still stuck

sheeplikessleep · 15/11/2010 17:13

honey?
not sure we've got magnesium sulphate.
it's still in the graze, it's hurting him to do anything like clapping.
thanks for posting
