Chicken pox, 7 days on is it safe to go out?

DS(4) starting showing spots on Saturday and has been inside since then, he was ill last friday too so technically has been inside since Thursday night.

His spots are still visible but now look scabby so is it safe to take him to the supermarket just for some fresh air or should I leave it until the spots go away all together?

Does anyone know how long this normally takes? I'm not over anxious to get him out as I realise that they can be dangerous but am I right in thinking they will no longer be contagious/

Also poor beggar has been off nursery for 2 weeks due to holidays and he is meant to go back on Monday but that won't be happening either I guess?

Thanks

5 days from the onset of rash

Well not counting Saturday it would have been 5 days yesterday. Just remember a big uproar the other week about it and was'nt sure about correct timings. Thank you

Basically, as soon as the last spot is crusted over (which may take longer than 5 days - it did with DD). So, assuming he's all crusty he's not infectious, can go to the shop and can even go back to nursery.

as long as they are scabbed over you can go out and he can go back to nursery
