HI
My four year old is on ventolin and flexotide for his asthma. He has been on the flexotide since last year with a gap of not taking it during the summer. His asthma is not very controlled at the moment so he is also having ventolin. He has just started having runny poos. It has been happening on and off since sept when he started school. He is missing so much school or being sent home either because of the diahroea(sp) or his asthma. Any ideas?

Hi,
It is unusual for inhalers to cause tummy problems but we are all different, ask your GP to arrange an asthma assessment and possibly change the inhaler.

The fact that it started when he started school does seem a bit of a coincidence! Suggest you check his diet and perhaps keep a food diary as it may be an allergic response. Also stress can cause tummy problems and starting school is a big event for children, check with the school that he is relaxed during the day if so you could try a sound therapy disc before he goes to school that might help.

Some people think that inoculations may cause allergy problems in some children so this would also link in with the time schedule. Ask the doctor about allergy tests.

If we can be of any further help have a look at our web site www.holistic-centre.org and drop us an email we have several therapists who might be able to advise you further.
I hope this is of some help for you.

HI
He had really bad allergies when he was a baby and was on a chicken and rice diet for a while and then gradually re weaned it was a nightmare as at on point every time he had any food he would end up in A+E!! He has allergy tests done and it all came back negative which is why he is now on a normal diet. He seems to really enjoy school when he is there its a tiny infant village school with just tow classrooms and he was at the nursery there so he knows it. He went to my GP today and they dont know what it is and have said to do a stool sample. His asthma is not controlled at the moment but the fexoide seems to work the best for him. He was on montuelukast but it didnt agree which him. He is also on priton so i would of thought that that would help with allergies side of it, although he has got dark rings under his eyes which was always a allerigic sign with him?? I suposse we will just have to wait and see what happens.

DD (18 mo) isn't asthmatic, but tends to get very wheezy after a virus. She has Ventolin and Atrovent inhalers for when it's bad. Last time she had lots of Ventolin she got really runny poo. It was vile! Dr said it could be due to Ventolin, however, it could possibly have been linked to teething too.

Sorry, that's not much help - but there's a possibility of a link.
