DS exposed to chicken pox- should I take him to playgroup?

Hi all,

I took DS to a party yesterday and one of the other mums there texted me to say her DD has come out in chicken pox (caught from another little girl we know I think, who is no longer infectious). So I've done some research, and I understand that if DS is going to get it, it will take two or three weeks to start and he will be infectious from two days before the spots until the last spot has scabbed over.

So I was thinking I will take him to playgroup, tell the other mums what's happened, and take his own toys so he doesn't drool on the shared ones. I don't think there's any need to keep him in for the time being.

So... worng section, but AIBU?

If he is showing no signs of illness, then you just carry on as usual I reckon. Barring visiting seriously ill people of course.

just becareful - chicken pox virus can be harmful to pregnant mothers but may not be getting it anyway!

I wouldn't worry about it yet. As you say, if he was only exposed yesterday you have another week before he could possibly be infectious. (Spots appear 10 - 20 days after exposure and can be infectious from 3 days before spots appear)
