Possible urine infection in 2 yo boy - when to call doctor?

My LO woke up last night with a fever which we got down with calpol/nurofen and he's now back to his normal self. The problem is he is crying and shouting mummy when he does a pee. What do I do? I don't know if is a urine infection but I don't know if I should be phoning NHS 24 since the docs are shut til Monday...

Help please?

I agree it's an urgent matter, maybe I'd leave it until tomorrow if he can sleep ok, but take him to a walkin centre tomorrow first thing.

I assume he's maybe in bed now, if so I'd phone the out of hours doctor in the morning if it still seems to be a problem.

In the meantime, lots and lots of water to lessen the stinging effect of his wee.

You will need to take a sample with you, so dig a bottle out ready.

SOrry I haven't replied to this one but I wanted to say thanks for the advice and let you know how he got on.

I managed to get a urine sample and we took it with us and got emergency appt. The sample is away for testing and he was given Trimethoprim since he is allergic to penicillin(sp?) They said it was good that we took him straight in like you all said as it can be serious if left too late and lead to kidney problems.

He is a lot better today after being on the antibiotics for a few days but he is still complaining that it is painful to wee. Just seems uncomfortable rather than in serious pain but I guess it just takes time for the antibiotics to clear it up and things to settle down

Thanks again for your advice. Greatly appreciated.
