Can someone tell me about slapped cheek?

I think my DS1 (8) might have it.

His cheeks are very very red and a bit hot to touch. He is otherwise completely well, and no rash elsewhere.

The rash on his cheeks appeared yesterday morning after we had used a bubble bath the previous evening that he was given for his birthday. We don't normally use any bath products so I had initially thought that he had reacted to it, but the rash is only on his face and is no better today.

I've looked on the NHS website, which says that although it is contagious, it is self limiting and there is no treatment, and also that once the rash has been around for a day or two the child will no longer be infectious.

Is there any point taking him to a doctor, given that (if the above info is correct) there is nothing they could do anyway? He has an inset day tomorrow so school isn't an issue till Monday, but we have DS3's birthday party on Sunday (he will be 4, and we're going to soft play) and I'm a little bit worried about him mixing with a lot of much younger children (and potentially judgy parents!) if he potentially has a contagious virus.

Does anyone have any advice or experience of this?

Thanks.
